heart attack...

it's the last week of january, so you know what that means....

it's {almost} valentine's day!

i started with some decorations we already had but am about to go out shopping for some more! here is what's hanging around so far!

i made trav a heart book for our first valentine's day: "25 things i love about you". from those hearts, i made a banner. call me a pack rat, i say i'm sentimental.

still have our mini trees up {i justify it by saying - it's still winter}. so i threw some heart ornaments on them!

this banner was made our wedding by my sister. i need to outline the letters to really make them pop. once again, sentimental. and who doesn't love our antlers?!?!

lil vignette of some valentine decor!

it's not much yet but had to get it up!

oh ya, speaking of valentine's day. we like to do a themed valentine's every year. last year, we did western. check that out here. so any ideas of themes?! get at me!

story time sunday: food.

i have been loving cooking + baking in the kitchen lately. but what i especially enjoy is the bellies i have been feeding with all of this food!

last week, i made chicken enchiladas for trav + some of his best buds and boy oh boy is it a project feeding 7 grown men! (single ladies who marry any of the 4 single guys in this pix or the one who is taking this pix (sorry kent)- come get this enchilada recipe from me! they will marry you on the spot! ha) love y'all!

(we never found the magnuson's did we?!?! LOL)

here are two of my new favorite recipes this summer:

pear salad. ingredients:
-sliced pears
-pistachios
-spinach (or whatever leaf you prefer)
-feta (for trav) goat (for me)
-light balsamic vinaigrette

so light + nice for lunch/dinner.

shauna niequist's blueberry crisp.
(not only is she my favorite author- she's my new favorite cook! she's writing a new book of recipes + simple entertaining. cannot wait for the release. {bread+wine} thanks for blogging this gem!)

Ingredients
4 cups blueberries (or any fruit, really)
Crisp topping:
1 cup old fashioned oats
½ cup pecans
½ cup almond meal (available at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, health food stores, or made by putting almonds in food processor until fine, but before they turn to almond butter)
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup olive oil
½ tsp salt
Instructions
Pour four cups fruit into 8x8 pan. Spread crisp topping over the fruit. Bake at 350 degrees 35-40 minutes, or longer if topping and fruit are frozen, until fruit is bubbling and topping is crisp and golden.
Serves 4

serve with some yogurt. so good!

hopefully your bellies have been full of great food this summer + even better memories to go along with it! can't believe fall is upon us soon. let's soak up the sun, BBQ's + watermelon while we can.

simple times.

i've been itching to do a simple project. and this one is simple! in fact, it didn't cost a dime! which we love projects like that!

supplies:
-frame
-twine
-nails
-screws
-3 fabric flowers
-hot glue gun

here is that we started out with.

(a blank frame- which has been sitting in my closet since high school1 hoarder?!?! lol)

then we nailed in the twine and knotted in the back of the frame. we did two layers cause i have a lot of earrings!

then we added screws to the bottom. and i hot glued on my flowers (that i used at our wedding on the mason jars with candles in it). we did this for the cute factor :).

and waah la- here is it! a fun way to display jewelry!

enjoy your wednesday!

garden.ers.

we are officially harper's!

for those of you who don't know- trav's family owns harper's nursery here in town! they have two of the cutest locations. lots of antique decor tied into planting! it's ADORABLE! and i'm not just sayin that cause now i'm a harper! lol

we decided to give our mini patio a new look!

before:
we arrived to harper's nursery in mesa.

during:
we took our new plants home and started potted. (trav is so cute when it comes to plants. he taught me proper planting! what a green man he is!)

and finally after:
here is our patio scape! ya- that's a tomato tree in the corner! we used those pots from our wedding. we also hung up some lanterns we had from the wedding too! now it's a beautiful peaceful place where i will enjoy my time with the Lord and cup of joe!

how did you enjoy your easter weekend?!
