fancy friday: give

my mom is a big giver. she loves to give her time, money + resources to others. i've always watched her and loved the way she does it so generously, without expecting anything in return. it's truly inspiring...

she's always looked at it like this: it's not mine anyways - it's the Lord's. 

i love that mentality. i have caught the giving bug! as small as it is, i have given away one dress + four pairs of earrings the past two weeks! LOL and it's SO fun! it's almost contagious.

my favorite story so far: today, a mom and daughter walked into our office looking for our welcome center. they seemed a bit overwhelmed so i offered to walk them there. in the midst of walking them there, i found out that they had sat in traffic for hours (LA traffic mixed with car crash traffic- the worst!). they were late for their tour and so on. i'm asking questions and getting to know them and the interest her daughter has in our school. so as she is talking, she looks at me and says: you have the cutest outfit - look at those earrings! so i start taking them off and handed them to her. she was FLOORED for the rest of our walk that i took them out of my ears and gave them to her. she kept saying, are you sure? i think her daughter was embarrassed but the mom was so overcome with joy - it was cute. she gave me a hug as she departed for the tour and thanked me again.

my encouragement on this fancy friday: give! whether it be time, money, resources, or maybe some cute earrings! LOL catch the giving bug. it's contagious!

fancy friday: office get up

so i'm not gonna lie - i work with the cutest, trendiest, most on point ladies ever! i love my office and especially the people in it. fancy friday will be featuring some of the ladies + their work style!

today we have sweet rosie. i met rosie when we were both students here many years ago :) she is kind, fun + always a sexy party! rosie never misses a beat - she is always fashionable and loves herself some accessories (i mean, check out that necklace!). we love it too cause we get to "ooohhh" and "ahhhh" everything she sports!

fancy friday: story time!

this fancy friday is about a book i've been obsessing over: bittersweet. i know i've already done blog posts on this book, but i'm a believer and need to tell you why....

in each chapter, shauna truthfully shares of different experiences, moments, events that gave her perspectives on life. she says that life is bittersweet, the idea that in all things there is both something broken and something beautiful. she shares her deepest hurts and struggles along with her most joyful moments. 

in the very last chapter, she tells about us sharing our story. i didn't think i had much of a story or stories to share. ohhhh but home-girl even calls us out: you ALL have a story! 

we DO all have stories, each one shaping the way we are, the way we think, the way we do life. it encouraged me to start sharing stories.

in the next couple weeks, i will be having a "story-time sunday" and share some things God has put on my heart that have shaped and made me who i am and believe the things I believe. i will also have some co-writers come in and share their stories.

can't wait. hope you can't either.

fancy friday: themed meals.

how was everyone's valentine's?! hopefully perfect!

we stayed in this valentine's and had a blast! we planned a themed dinner! fancy that!

theme: western!

dress code: western wear. as you can imagine- i had my cowgirls boots on, plaid to the max. best part- i had a smokin' hot cowboy more decked out then me! (bummed i didn't get a pix of this goodness!)

meal: fried steak (courtesy pioneer woman), mashed potatoes, and good ol' corn on the cob!

dessert: yummy peanut butter rice krispy treats (not western but too good to pass up!)

movie: tombstone (good flick- filmed in AZ!)

Fancy Friday {a lil late}

HOLY WEEK! wow! it's been a busy week and weekend!

fancy friday was neglected and that's just not right! for a little redemption- i'll show you something so fancy, it won't matter that this post is on a monday!

my best friend whitney started a design & events company called whit mitt events! she is amazingly talented. if y'all need some help with any event- she is your gal! she is getting ready for a busy wedding season and i cannot wait to see some of her designs.

fancy friday: the giving keys.

i decided to start a weekly "fancy friday". this means: i'll be writing in on anything that tickles my fancy for the week! it could be a food, person, fashion, poem, picture, interview, design, company... you get the point!

to start off my "fancy friday" i have decided to let you in on a company that i'm fancy'ing: the giving keys.

this company is phenomenal. caitlin crosby is the owner, along with two homeless people she met in LA. she heard their story and wanted to give them a chance to get off the streets. so they developed a company that could do just that. every key you buy (that the homeless she employs make), is meant to be given away to someone who needs it. the concept: pay it forward.

they have a blog that has stories of the people who received/gave keys. i read the stories, sobbing, and loving what a simple concept, a key necklace with an encouraging word, does to people!

they make great presents (hint hint)! and the proceeds go fully to getting people off the streets. it's a beautiful thing.
